Laundry

Emergency Rat

During Part 2, we'll have to saw Frank's peg leg off. He will then wake up and scream for help, which causes Fred and Fin to also wake up briefly before the scene cuts away.

However, the game actually checks whether or not Muenster Monster (the rat) is present during this cutscene. If he is, then the cutscene has an extra bit where Fin sends the rat to "go get help". Fin even has a unique pointing animation which isn't used anywhere else.

Of course, this will never normally be triggered, because it's impossible to get the saw without having already souped the rat in Part 1.

Fred Shouting

Fred (the middle of the three men) almost never speaks. He only ever laughs in Monkey Island 1, and is mostly silent in Monkey Island 2, with exactly one exception.

If we blow the ship's horn while in the laundry area, Fred will actually wake up and shout at Guybrush:

"Hey! SHUT UP!"

The Special Edition has voiceover for this line, and it sounds particularly strange in my opinion:

To me, it sounds like this line is lower quality compared to the rest of the voice acting in the game, and also has some kind of filter or reverb effect, making it feel weirdly out-of-place. According to the credits, this is Denny Delk (the voice of Murray, the Narrator, and the Citizen of Mêlée, among many others), but somehow I'm doubtful of that. It doesn't sound much like him to my ear.

Money Shenanigans

Frank will usually give us one piece of eight each time we polish his peg leg. However, the amount he can give is limited based on a couple of factors.

During Part 1, he'll give Guybrush up to 19 pieces of eight, at which point he'll run out. This is one short of the 20 that Captain Dread is asking for. The game does this to prevent the player from skipping the rat-in-soup puzzle chain.

During Part 2, Frank will give Guybrush a seemingly-unlimited amount, but it turns out there is still a limit. This time, the limit is 5,912, which is a handful shy of the 6,000 needed to charter Captain Kate's ship. Reaching this limit manually would take at least 9 hours.

Note that the game is only checking the amount that Guybrush is carrying, not the amount that Frank has actually given him. This means if we were to hit the limit, go off and spend some money, and then come back, he'll suddenly have more to give. This has some interesting consequences.

Laundry Spacing

The items on the laundry carousel always come out in the same order (fancy coat, fancy hat, striped shirt, trousers, green waistcoat, white fur coat, peg leg, parrot, bra), but the spacing between them is randomized. As a consequence, this means that the time it takes for the cutscene to finish will be slightly different on each playthrough - anywhere between 20 and 30 seconds if you're not skipping text.
